Question by Ole Fisherman: How MANY on ANSWERS, like to participate in “BASS fishing” tournaments?
If so, tell me any tournaments you’ve won and the tactic and lures that helped you WIN.
Also what were the fishing conditions?(example: 20 knot winds, water clarity of 4 ft, raining, ETC).

I would love to be in a tournament. I love BASS fishing. I am going to DICK’s in an hour to get some lures to go fishing with tommarrow. I can never find any info about any tournaments in my area, southwest PA. If I had the money or could get sponsered I could travel farther.

As far as your question. When I start fishing I always start top-water. I’ll use Flukes, they swim like hurt minnows. Or I’ll try frogs. I have different colors of each. Then if they don’t work, I’ll go to my 1- crankbaits. This time of year, Spring/April 21, I use natural looking lures. Another words silvers and greys, anything that I think could resemble the true image of a fleeing fish. When I reel in the crankbaits, I will start with a fast retrieve, then a slow, then start and stop till I get a fish then repeat. The best seems to be a steady retrieve while you jerk the bait throught the water. Give it a jerk then reel reel reel jerk reel reel reel jerk. If that don’t work, I’ll go deeper and deeper till I get results. If all that doesn’t work, I’ll switch to rubber worms, on a Texas rig on a 5/0 hook sometimes I’ll use 4/0. I will also try differnt color worms. Then if I still aint getting anything, I’ll goto Gitzit tubs. I’ll try all the colors of those I have and hope they work. It really depends on alot of things though. Weather, water temp, do they have good cover, your line strength, how you fish your bait, the color of the bait, if the bait is flavor injected or has salt or other tastes, the barometer plays a role in how the fish feed too. I learned all I know from a true BASS fisherman. He has fished in tournaments all of his life. He was in with 300-400 other boats. The closest he ever got was 15th place. Also before a tournament, find out where it will be, what lake, and fish it as much as you can. Find where the cover is, where the deep spots are. What colors the fish seem to bite on the most, etc… I hope this helped, If you ever need someone to fish with and your around Pittsburgh PA let me know. Of course you should e-mail me know so we can set something up. Good luck if you fish in an upcoming tournament. Hey, I just got back from a cold wet day of fishing and I got a few BASS, but nothing over 2 lbs. I found acouple sites where you can but books to help you figure out what lures to use, and how to use them. They both have gaurantees too.

First off I love bass fishing, I saw an article earlier that must have been put on by an upset wife, she was right in alot of ways. I have won small tournments ( open team tournments) with any where from 15 to 25 boats in them. I fish the Walmart BFL series and a local club here in Western New York. I haven’t won any big ones yet but still trying, I fish the Empire division in New York and the Shendoah division in Virginia. It can be verry exensive or fairly in expensive, depending on your job. I’m lucky to have a pretty decent paying job that allows me to be able to do this, with out it I’d find a way though. My father won a tournment that paid almost $ 10,000.00 two years ago on Chautauqua Lake, which is aprox. 45 minutes from Erie, PA. The water was in the 70′s wind was calm and we started out in a Fog delay that morning( another words they wouldn’t let us start fishing until it was safe) for three hours. It was a nice sunny day after the fog lifted and was probabl in the mid 70′s. I didn’t fair well due to my partners fish had already moved off the structure they were holding on and he didn’t want to go into my dad’s area, which he had that choice being the boater. My father won pitching senko’s for two days strait and also had the big bass( largest bass caught in the tourney) on senkos. If the wind picks up we usually will put a little weight to help get the senko down, they usually fall pretty good. If what area are you in in PA, maybe we could go fishing some time. I’ll leave you a couple of websites to check out tournments that may be fairly close to you. The BFL co-anglers entry fee is $ 100.00 and I’m not sure what the Bassmasters entry fee is I believe it is also a Hundred dollars, and you fish for around $ 2500 to $ 3000. in local tournments they genrally run 25 to 50 dollars depending where they are at. Feel free to contact me at bmck33@yahoo.com any time. hope this helps you some, Bill
